Behind-the-scenes tour
You can get closer to the wildlife than you ever thought before, meeting animals eye-to-eye, as well as getting to feed the elephants, smell the giraffes and learning trade secrets about the sea aquarium. Discover the best the zoo has to offer by taking an insider's tour, enabling you to access all areas. Select a behind-the-scenes visit to various animal houses or just one in particular.
What you can expect
- You will take a walk around the zoo, seeing the view usually reserved for staff in the company of a skilled guide.
- You will enter special places that cannot be accessed by ordinary visitors. You will learn the hidden life of the animals that cannot be seen anywhere else. You will get as close to the animals as it's possible to be, and can stroke and feed them.
- Tours last from 30 to 120 minutes depending on the tour specified.
Access all areas
- Touch the elephants - stand face-to-face with these African giants, closer than in the wild or on a routine zoo visit. Discover more about the African Savannah House with your guide, and step right into the enclosure amongst the elephants.
- Eye-to-Eye with the giraffes - Try tempting the giraffes with some juicy leaves to lure them as close as possible. Experience the herd from up close. See the giraffes at eye level from the observation walkway in their inner or outer enclosures.
- The other side of the aquarium - Discover the secrets of life in the oceans. Visit the breeding centre for coral and sea creatures. Take a peek at the crocodiles.
- Get close to a constrictor - Overcome your fears and test your courage. Get touchy feely with the reptiles and other creatures in the Darwin Station.
